Project Overview

Carr & Duff installed new highway lighting, traffic signalization, sign lighting as well as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology for the Betsy Ross BRO interchange improvements in Philadelphia. This unique project consisted of electrical work on seven different elevated structures as part of the reconstruction of the I-95 – Betsy Ross Bridge interchange.

Carr & Duff installed over 22,000 feet of conduit and 240 steel junction boxes on the 7 structures and over 7,500 feet of conduit and 20 junction boxes in trench. Over 36,000 feet of cable was installed to power the 59 new highway lighting poles and luminaires, 53 new luminaries installed on existing highway lighting poles and 44 luminaires for the 11 new sign structures.

Additionally, Carr & Duff installed 5,000 feet of 4” galvanized rigid conduit on 4 of the structures, 5,000 of 4” multicell underground conduit and 10,000 feet of fiber optic cable for the new ITS equipment. Carr & Duff installed 8 new CCTV cameras, 4 DMS (dynamic message signs) and 4 Bluetooth travel time readers.

Carr & Duff completed new traffic signals at the intersections of Richmond Street and the westbound exit ramp from the Betsy Ross Bridge as well as the intersection of Richmond Street and East Bristol Street.
